At Head & Heart Health and Wellness, we’re all about giving your skin the love it deserves, using your body’s own regenerative powers to bring out your most radiant, natural self. But with so many acronyms floating around, PRP, PRF, and PDGF, it’s easy to get lost in the alphabet soup of skincare. Don’t worry, we’ve got you. Let’s break it down, so you can feel informed (and maybe a little impressed with yourself) at your next appointment.
PRP: Platelet-Rich Plasma
What it is:
PRP is plasma taken from your own blood that’s been spun down to concentrate platelets, those little powerhouses that help your body heal. It’s packed with growth factors that stimulate collagen, elastin, and skin regeneration.
What it does:
We inject PRP into areas needing rejuvenation (hello, under eyes, cheeks, and more). It helps improve skin texture, tone, and firmness. It’s also amazing for hair restoration and even boosting biofiller results.
Why people love it:
It’s all natural (literally your own blood), and it delivers a gradual glow-up that improves over time as collagen production ramps up.
PRF: Platelet-Rich Fibrin
What it is:
PRF is the next generation of PRP. It’s also derived from your blood, but it’s spun at a lower speed, so the final product contains not just platelets but white blood cells and fibrin too, hello, enhanced healing and longer-lasting effects.
What it does:
PRF forms a gel-like matrix once injected, acting like a slow-release version of PRP. This means the benefits last longer and penetrate deeper into the skin.
Why people love it:
It’s especially popular for treating delicate areas like under the eyes, where volume loss is common but traditional fillers may not be ideal. And like PRP, it’s 100%, you have no additives.
PDGF: Platelet-Derived Growth Factors
What it is:
PDGF refers to the specific proteins found in both PRP and PRF that drive cell growth and tissue repair. These are the MVPs of regeneration.
What it does:
PDGF signals your body to repair damaged tissue and build new collagen. It’s one of the reasons PRP and PRF work so well, they’re rich in PDGF and other bioactive factors.
Why people love it:
Even though you won’t see “PDGF injections” on our menu, knowing that PRP and PRF are loaded with these growth factors can give you confidence that what you’re doing is science-backed and body-friendly.
How Does This All Tie Into Biofillers?
At Head & Heart, we combine these natural boosters with biofiller facial rejuvenation, a treatment that uses biocompatible materials (often from your own body) to restore volume and refresh your skin without synthetic fillers. Think natural volume, improved elasticity, and a glow that doesn’t scream “I just had work done.”
Whether we’re using PRF under the eyes, PRP with microneedling, or a customized biofiller blend, your treatment is uniquely tailored to enhance your natural beauty, not change it.
Before Your Appointment: Prep Like a Pro
A little prep can go a long way! Here’s how to set yourself up for the best results:
- Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. Drink at least 64 oz of water before your appointment.
- Eat a healthy snack before your blood draw.
- Consider taking Vitamin C (2000 mg/day) in the week leading up to your appointment.
- Pause Retinol and exfoliants 3 days before and after.
- Avoid NSAIDs, alcohol, caffeine, and blood-thinners for at least 3 days prior (and after) to reduce bruising and optimize results.
- Feeling sick or spotty? Reschedule if you have a cold, blemish, or fever.
Aftercare Tips: Love Your Skin Back
Here’s how to help your skin heal happily:
- Skip makeup, skincare, and washing your face for at least 6 hours.
- Avoid vigorous exercise, hot showers, and sun exposure for 3 days.
- No touching or rubbing the treated area for 8 hours.
- Ice gently if needed and use Tylenol for discomfort.
- Expect some redness, swelling, or bruising; that’s totally normal and usually fades in a few days.

Want to give your results a little extra boost? Try adding:
- A CO2 Lift Mask
- Our LED light therapy (in-office or with the Omnilux mask)
- A soothing sheet mask
- An immune-boosting IV or injection
